In order to keep up with the latest fashion, which is often revealing (skimpier and tighter than earlier trends), women continue to seek the ideal “hourglass” figure to show off in these new styles. For centuries, women have tried to enhance their shape with uncomfortable corsets and padded girdles. Today, with the option of plastic surgery, women don’t have to rely on these illusions to achieve the look they desire.
Despite the inevitability of genetics, breast augmentation and liposuction have helped women attain their desired results for many years. Now, new technologies have allowed more advanced plastic surgery procedures to become available, such as buttocks augmentation. Although it is regarded as a very challenging procedure, Dr. Markmann has been performing these procedures since 1998 and has unparalleled experience performing “buttock enhancement” surgeries. He offers two techniques to help an individual achieve the shape she desires.
Existing for several decades, buttock augmentation was originally performed using implants. Dr. Markmann offers buttock implants; however, he does not always recommend this technique due to this procedure’s history of high complication rates. With advances in recent technology the fat grafting technique, which has been coined the “Brazilian Buttocks Lift,” continues to gain popularity and attract numerous women due to its amazing and safe results. Fat transfer is therefore usually Dr. Markmann’s first choice due to safety issues as well as the amazing results it provides. Implants are usually reserved as an option for women who do not have enough fat in other areas of the body to transfer to the buttocks.
Dr. Markmann has performed this fat grafting procedure now known as the “Brazilian Buttocks Lift” since 1998 and has developed and refined his technique over these years to provide consistent and predictable results. His technique of his has come to be known as the “Markmann Method.”
The Definitions:
The terms “buttocks augmentation” and “buttocks enhancement” are both very broad terms that refer to any procedure that makes your buttocks larger and shapelier. This includes both implants and fat grafting procedures.
The terms “Brazilian Buttocks Lift” and “fat grafting” both refer to the removal of fat from other parts of the body, such as the hips and waistline, and then injecting the fat into the buttocks to enlarge and enhance its shape.
The Procedures:
Buttock Implants: Made of a soft silicone material, implants are commonly inserted through one or two vertical incisions between the buttock cheeks, just above the anus. Scarring will be hidden between the buttock crease and may extend slightly above to avoid being too close to the anus. This will minimize risk of infection. A tunnel is then made toward each buttock cheek to the location where the implant will be positioned. A pocket is developed either beneath, within, or directly above the muscle. The implant is then inserted and the incisions are sutured closed. Each of the implant position options has pros and cons and can be further discussed during a consultation.
Fat Grafting: This is performed by liposuctioning fat from one area of the body and injecting it into the buttocks. Everyone is born with genetically predetermined number of fat cells, which shrink and enlarge as weight fluctuates; therefore, depending on the person, variable quantities of fat cells are fixed in specific areas of the body. When Dr. Markmann transfers the fat cells, he is simply moving the cells to a different area of the body. By moving the fat cells to a new area, Dr. Markmann is able to provide a new shape to that region.
Before fat is transferred, it is purified. The fat cells are separated from other cells and fluids. Once purified, the fat will be injected into the buttock and hip areas. This process will add volume to the buttocks, while enhancing the overall curvaceousness of the body. The added benefit of fat transfer is being able to slim another area of the body while augmenting the buttocks. This provides an overall more shapely and youthful hourglass appearance.
The Recovery:
Whether Dr. Markmann uses the buttock implants or fat transfer technique, each procedure entails three weeks off of work for recovery. Patients will be unable to sit on the buttock area for two weeks following their surgery and should gradually begin sitting for brief periods, until it is completely comfortable. During a consultation, Dr. Markmann will emphasize the importance of following exact instructions during the recovery process. This ensures a safer recovery and will help to achieve optimal results.
The Final Result:
It is normal for the patient to experience swelling and bruising after the procedure. Typically, bruising subsides within two to three weeks after surgery and swelling will be apparent for up to three months. Patients can expect to see full results within three months after surgery.
