Restylane®

What is Restylane®?
Restylane® is a dermal filler made from hyaluronic acid that has been modified slightly to last longer than the body's hyaluronic acid. In the human body natural hyaluronic acid provides volume and fullness to the skin. Restylane® restores volume and fullness to the skin to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as the lines from your nose to the corners of your mouth (nasolabial folds). Restylane® is proven to deliver long-lasting results....On average, at least 4 to 6 months in the majority of patients. Restylane® is FDA approved for the treatment of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds.

What should patients do prior to treatment?
Restylane® requires no pretesting....an injection can be done immediately – no waiting is required. You should avoid aspirin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications (i.e., ibuprofen), St. John’s Wort, or high doses of Vitamin E supplements prior to treatment, because these may increase bruising or bleeding at the injection site. Also, if you are having the treatment performed around your mouth and have previously suffered from facial cold sores, discuss this with Dr. Markmann who may prescribe a medication to minimize the risk of recurrence.

How is Restylane® administered?
Restylane® is administered by injection to the treatment site in small amounts by an ultrafine needle. As with all injections, some patients may experience discomfort. Dr. Markmann will assess your need for pain management.

After your treatment, you might have some swelling, redness, pain, bruising, and tenderness. This will normally last less than seven days.
