CoolSculpting®

CoolSculpting by ZELTIQ™

The newest, most innovative, non-surgical alternative to liposuction, CoolSculpting® is available at the Ellicott City Plastic Surgery practice of Dr. Markmann. This non-invasive treatment can effectively contour the areas of the body where bulges of stubborn fat exist. Even people who lead healthy lifestyles and are physically fit may have this problem due to the fact that multiple inevitable factors can cause fatty deposits to develop, such as aging (which slows metabolism), genetics, and hormones. Those who choose to undergo the CoolSculpting procedure at the practice of Dr. Markmann can look forward to losing annoying bumps and bulges of stubborn fat.

How does CoolSculpting work?

This non-invasive procedure entails the use of a cooling technology (Cryolipolysis) to target the fatty cells and provide a significant reduction in the number of fat cells in the treatment area. CoolSculpting is an effective way to contour the body without having to undergo surgery; this process chills the underlying fat at a controlled cooling temperature using an applicator, which causes it to crystallize and die, then the body gets rid of it through natural mechanisms.

The CoolSculpting Process

This procedure is safe and FDA cleared for treatment of the flank area but Dr. Markmann says that CoolSculpting can be used on nearly any area of the body with excess fat that can be “pinched,” such as the abdomen, the back and the arms.

How long does the procedure take?

Typically, the CoolSculpting procedure takes about an hour per area, in order to completely freeze the fat cells.

Am I a good candidate for this treatment?

CoolSculpting is not designed to be a method of weight loss. Rather, it is intended to improve the shapes of those who are already physically healthy but have bothersome pockets of excess fat.

Is CoolSculpting painful?

Some patients might experience redness, minor bruising, numbness or discomfort in the treated area but only temporarily. There is no surgery or anesthesia needed.

Are results immediately noticeable?

The fat cells will die slowly over a period of about six to eight weeks, in a process known as “apoptosis.” Although CoolSculpting is not meant to replace natural weight loss, you will appear as though you have lost weight in certain areas where treatment was applied.

Are there side effects?

There are no side effects and little to no risks.

Is there any downtime?

There is little-to-no downtime associated with the CoolSculpting procedure, which excites many patients because they don’t have to worry about experiencing a recovery period. In fact, according to Dr. Markmann, many men who are the sole breadwinners of the family opt for the CoolSculpting treatment due to the fact that that they do not have to take time off from work or any other responsibilities.

Are CoolSculpting results permanent?

As long as you are able to maintain your weight with normal diet and exercise, you should be able to enjoy long-term, stable results.
